Sam Rainsy's bodyguards defected to the CPP

By Khmerization

More than 100 Sam Rainsy Party members, including Mr. Sam Rainsy's personal bodyguards, had defected to the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) at its Phnom Penh's Meanchey district branch, reports Deum Ampil.

Mr. Kuoch Chamroen, the CPP's Meanchey district governor, had confirmed the defections on Saturday, 28th November. "Today we are busy organising a very friendly reception ceremony to receive them. They have defected to us without any coercion or without any offerings of incentives. They defected to us voluntarily", he said.

Mr. Kuoch Bunroen futher added that among the defectors, there are a number of Mr. Rainsy's personal bodyguards. "Among the defectors, we've seen some of Mr. Rainsy's bodyguards had also defected to us, when in the past these bodyguards had risked their lives to protect Mr. Rainsy", he added.

Khmerization is unable to confirm the defections as Deum Ampil News failed to seek confirmation from the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) about these alleged defections.

Mr. Sam Rainsy is still overseas, after the Cambodian National Assembly had stripped him off his parliamentary immunity on 16th November on charges of "sabotage and destruction of public properties" after he had led 100 villagers to uproot six border poles in the middle of Khmer farmers' rice-fields he accused of illegally planted by the Vietnamese authority.

The latest news from Deum Ampil website reported that the SRP officials had conceded that the reports of the defections are true. Deum Ampil quoted Mr. Chea Poch, SRP MP for Prey Veng constituency, as conceding that some SRP members had defected to the CPP, but he said that this is their democratic rights.

It is not sure if the defections are real or they are stage-managed. As Sam Rainsy has just been stripped off his parliamentary immunity, it appears that the defections are stage-managed in order to intimidate Mr. Sam Rainsy and his party.

This is a tactics to destroy the SRP and make Sam Rainsy not trusting anyone, not even his own bodyguards.

Whether this is a propaganda or real defection, Mr. Rainsy must take this as very serious warning to his leadership. He can not keep "running away" when he is intimidated or threatened by CPP. How do you expect your followers to support you when you are not there to lead by example? Unlike Mr. Rainsy who can run away, his supporters have no place to hide.

The longer Sam Rainsy stays outside of Cambodia, the weaker SRP will become. Granted that the border issues between Vietnam and Cambodia are under some spotlight at this moment, there are not much that Sam Rainsy and the world could do the change the agreements signed and sealed by Cambodian government and the King of Cambodia.

Sam Rainsy needs to go back home and try to hold his group together. Rumors have been spreaded a hew weeks back that there would be defections of SRP members to the CPP.

Soy Sopheap and Chhum Kosal of CTN have been criticizing Sam Rainsy on his policy towards Thailand/Cambodia border issue that seems to oppose Hun Sen's stance.

Hun Sen will not jail Sam Rainsy, he must go back and face the challenges.

Khmerization reports too much and gives much shit important to deum ampil info, is there a reason for that?

I think it's ok to report the reports; however it is important for the readers to know where the reports came from, to read between the lines, then to form their own opinion. I am confident that readers can tell the difference between news and a propagada...

6:52 AM, I don't think Khmerization is giving too much credit to Deum Ampil. He just use it as a news source and people can make up their minds when they read the news.

Back to the defections, if Chea Poch had admitted it, then it must be true. I agree with 4:55 AM that Rainsy must return home to lead his party. As you said, when the leader is not home, the follower has no one to give them comfort.

These defections didn't just happen. They were coerced, threatened and bribed to defect.

it doesn't matter. Chhim Timothy is still so hurt from his failed mission. He is more hurt than Sam Rainsy. He is full of himself, worse than Rainsy. More talk of nonsense. People come and go, so let it be.

Of course it does matter, because an idea counts. I have learned it from my mistakes, but some continue to make the same mistakes. I wish them well.

Don't compare me to Sam Rainsy. I am not a professional or a career politician; he is, and you are one of his anonymous supporters who is more fearful than those supporters who are fighting in the open.

I don't claim that my suggestions make any sense, and I am waiting for your great ideas so that Sam Rainsy will not repeat the same mistake.

Many members of the oppositions are tired, broke and have no more patience. If they are afraid, they could not have join the oppositions in the first place. They have more courage than many of those who fight behind anonimous name, from the US or europe.

These members have lived under threats for many years, so a few more years would not make any difference if they see any hope for their future.

Let's face it, not all people had joined the oppositions because of their philosophy, but to seek for position and personal interests. But, for so many years they have not seen much improvement in their life.

Many of them are getting poorer while at the same time those who belong to the CPP are getting richer and are being treated better.

Don't blame them for seeking a better life, because they have sacrificed for so long and yet they see more of the same.

Let's wait and see if there are any defection from the CPP to the oppositions.

I predict that if Sam Rainsy doesn't return to Cambodia soon, there will be more defection ahead.

I agree that if Rainsy doesn't return home soon, there will be more defections. Regarding the defections to the oppositions from the CPP, they don't declare it publicly because the communist CPP will definitely kill them. There are many defections in the past but they do it secretly because they fear for their lives.

Just think that many in the SRP leadership used to work for the CPP- Kong Korm, Yim Sovann etc, etc. But these days these people are one of the best and most loyal SRP leaders.
