A senior government official on Thursday has rejected opposition leader Sam Rainsy's claims as false that the government has conceded that the border post number 185 that Mr. Rainsy uprooted in late 2009 was located inside Khmer territories, reports Radio Free Asia.

The government's denial came after Mr. Rainsy issued a statement on 7th April claiming a "big victory" because he said the government has admitted that the border post he had uprooted were actually planted inside Cambodian territories.

Mr. Var Kimhong, Cambodian chief border negotiator, rejected Mr. Rainsy's claims and said that Mr. Rainsy is twisting the truth. "He did not understand, doesn't know how to read the map and doesn't know how to interpret the map and so he interpreted that the government had agreed with him that there are border encroachments. This is a further misleading of national and international public opinion. I urge him to read the documents and if he is not an expert, please ask the experts. This is the right thing to do. Don't just twist the truth", said Mr. Kimhong.

Talking by telephone from Paris, Mr. Rainsy said he saw a document that shows the government's admission. "I have seen a document that was released by cartographical and border experts from the Council of Ministers whick acknowledged that the border posts that I uprooted in Svay Rieng last year were not the real border posts", he said.

I his statement dated on 7th April, Mr. Rainsy claimed that the document conceded that border posts that he uprooted were actually planted 516 metres deep inside Cambodian territories.

On 30th March, the opposition Sam Rainsy Party had written a letter to Prime Minister Hun Sen requesting him to suspend border demarcation works with Vietnam as the present border demarcation works infringe on Cambodian sovereignty and territorial integrity. However, Mr. Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly, refused to pass the letter on to Mr. Hun Sen saying both the opposition and the government had debated about the issues many times before.

Var Kimhong was an educated person, but when he mix with the lowly-educated persons like Hun Sen, he talks like them. It is not Rainsy who can't read the map, it is Var Kimhong himself who can't read the map. Vietnam really encroached on Khmer borders because Khmer farmers cried everyday for help, but Hun Sen never cared. He is a traitor.
