SRP seeks Sihanouk’s aid

SAM Rainsy Party officials say they will seek the help of King Father Norodom Sihanouk (pictured) on the issue of border incursions by the Vietnamese, a party official said Wednesday, as the former monarch returned from Beijing.

“He returned to Cambodia while the ruling [Cambodian People’s Party] threatens the people who struggled to protect the border land,” SRP spokesman Yim Sovann said. “We will ask him to find justice for us because he understands about the border work.”

Sihanouk, who receives medical treatment in China, travelled home with his wife, Queen Mother Monineath Sihanouk, and son, King Norodom Sihamoni.

The royal family was met at Phnom Penh International Airport by a delegation of leaders, including Prime Minister Hun Sen, National Assembly President Heng Samrin and Senate President Chea Sim, before travelling back to the Royal Palace.

“The King Father and his wife returned to Cambodia to join this happy New Year with his people,” said Um Daravuth, the King’s Cabinet officer.

During his time abroad, Sihamoni received a routine health check in Beijing, before travelling on to Prague and France.

The retired king shouldn't turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to SamRainsy's case if he still stands up for justice and righteousness. If he can't help resolve the conflict between the 2parties, that means he's no longer a politically influential figure in Cambodia -- his fame and pretige are all gone with the wind.

The retired king is retired, it is as simple as that. In the past he had always helped many of his subjects who asked for his help. His hands are very tight because Hun Sen controls everything and he never been happy whenever Sihanouk is trying to help someone whom Hun Sen doesn't agree with. Hun Sen is the king and Sihamoni and Sihanouk are his puppets.

Let's all be truthfully clear and blunt here. If any political party that dwelved into the political arena fighting the ruling CPP could not take the heat, they should simply have to find other ways out and cease each time to call for help from the Monarchy like small kids that were beaten up by adults and then sit there and cry for Mamma/Papa... Grow up and figure out a more mature way out of your own predicaments. And I'm no CPP fans either...

It is nothing wrong for asking for the king's help. Under the constitution, the king has the power to grant a royal pardon, but the fact is Hun Sen never allow the king to exercise his constitutional powers. Here, the SRP just want to ask the ex-king to help solve national issues, they didn't ask him to help them get out of any trouble. SRP is concerned about Cambodia's territorial integrity because Hun Sen's government is not concerned, or even connive with Vietnam to cede Khmer territories to Vietnam.
